Weekly Browsing Wrap-Up

So here’s the best of my week in browsing:

Messages from the Sports Racers – an online community built around The Show with Ze Frank. Some heartfelt goodbyes as Ze draws to the end of his year of videoblogging.

Blade Runner – Wired Magazine’s profile of Oscar Pistorius, the double amputee sprinter from Pretoria, South Africa, who is on pace to run the 200- and 400-meter sprints fast enough to earn a spot on South Africa’s Olympic team. That’s Olympic(!!), not Paralympic…

The LapDawg – a revolutionary, ergonomic, portabls and easy to use laptop desk which they won’t ship to South Africa. (Believe me, I asked)

George Lange’s 2006 Portfolio – Creative photographic genius. (Via: Strobist)

The Lulu Blooker Prize, where our very own (as in South African) Tertia Albertyn’s “So Close” Book/Blog is one of the finalists. This is BIG. She stands alongside the likes of Seth Godin and Post Secret for this one.

Desktop Tower Defense. Not easy this one, and it will suck up your Friday arvie if you’re not careful.

Shaun Dewberry’s Weblog – 3 Years Old

Helsinki Lutheran Cathedral
Yes indeed, “Shaun Dewberry’s Weblog” in its current format is officially 3 years old today! And to think it all started 3 years ago as a place to publish “The Espoo Diaries” – still one of my best writing series ever, imho.

Of course the site did exist in various incarnations before that, but those seem to have been relegated to the Internet wastelands… 🙁

I guess I’d better prepare a little upgrade at some stage for this maturing little 3 year old.

Cricket World Cup Online Tidbits

Yeah, its that time of year when we ignore the Cricket World Cup as much as possible until we see South Africa playing a crucial match, get roped into the local pub, drench our tonsils in beer and end up screaming our lungs out at an umpire who’s got the wrong finger raised.

For those of you who can’t join us at the bar, you could always tour the venues in Google Earth or use a couple of Google features to track the latest cricket news. [Via: Google Operating System]

More Coke Fest, and excitement for Love Jones

Love Jones

Via MakeSomeNoise news:

“…and now the highly anticipated local line-up has just been confirmed! *SPRINGBOK NUDE GIRLS * THE PARLOTONES * EVOLVER * CASSETTE * J * THE DIRTY SKIRTS * LOVE JONES * TAXI VIOLENCE*
The Springbok Nude Girls and The Parlotones will be performing in both Johannesburg and Cape Town, with Evolver, Cassette and J performing in Johannesburg only, and The Dirty Skirts, Love Jones and Taxi Violence performing in Cape Town only. ”

Man that sucks, the only new band for me will be Cassette. I wanted to see Love Jones again, but I’m in Joburg. Maybe I should just fly out to Los Angeles to see Love Jones perform at the Viper Room. Yeah, you read that right – Love Jones is playing at the Viper Room on Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, California on the 30th of March 2007!! Awesome stuff! Good luck to Esjay and the Jones boys! International readers – you know where you need to be if you’re in LA.

Ah well, for us back home the born-again Nudies and the Parlotones will have to do, but its a bit of “been there, done that”.

So long as the Parlotones don’t have to play right at the end again – that surely sucked.
