Bullard Hilarity Ensues

A couple of beautiful video responses with David Bullard shooting from the hip at the blogosphere. Fun stuff. Certainly as suspected there was no malicious intent there, perhaps just a few misguided words. Credit to Mr Bullard for participating so openly with the blogosphere.

See the videos here.

Now I wonder whether it was all just The Sunday Times simply sucker-punching the blogosphere into generating a huge buzz for them? Although, to me it seems they are quite in awe of the power and strength of our little part of the blogosphere.

If anything, this a beautiful little burden of proof for anyone who wants to show the power of the blogosphere.

Bullard Bullshit

David Bullard has missed a trick with his latest column attacking bloggers. I bet he didn’t expect the brilliant turnaround time in which bloggers ripped him a new one responded to his column. At the time of my writing this I’ve seen at least five or six blog posts which basically tear Bullard’s drivel to pieces.

Of course, Bullard’s earliest response will probably only be published in a week’s time – more power to the traditional media. NOT.

Here’s what I can add to the conversation:

If David Bullard’s concern is that of regulating content and restricting bloggers then he should turn to his nearest lawyer. A short conversation later he will have the answer that blogs are subject to the same laws that already exist governing free speech in South Africa. Just because it is on the internet doesn’t make it above the law. Furthermore, a quick chat with any of those gun-toting nerd bloggers will inform him that true anonymity on the internet is a lot harder to pull off than it seems.

Mr Bullard should worry that if he takes a sabbatical he will return to find himself redundant. With 70 million people openly expressing their opinion on a subject, what makes his opinion any better? The fact that it has been printed on a dead tree? I think not.

Guys, I think Mr Bullard needs to find out what an aggregator is, which will guide him to the good content.

“These are the sort of wackos who gun down their fellow students at university”. Really, Mr Bullard? Was that really necessary? Where’s your editorial and moral compass now?

Here follow a couple of links.

I love this stuff – this is exactly what the US blogosphere and US media went through about 2 years ago and it’s hitting us now. Our community is growing strong and we’re starting to intimidate.

Get Paid To Surf With Agloco

Now I don’t know if it is a scam or if it is a viable business. I remember things like this from the old Web 1.0 days which certainly fell apart. But Agloco is promising to pay you for surfing while having their toolbar installed.

Obviously there are a myriad of security and privacy concerns, but if you’re willing to sacrifice some of your internet soul, this could turn into a useful source of income indeed.

I’m registered, and gonna give Agloco a try. They haven’t released their ViewBar yet, and so are not yet active, but they are promising it in the next few days/weeks. If you’re signed up they will alert you to it as soon as the viewbar download is available.

Maybe maybe, you never know where you could end up getting a few extra rands for beer….

Sign up here. All the info is on their site.

MyCokeFest Photos and Videos

Amy Lee / Evanescence

The bands rocked. The organisation was improved but far from perfect. The concert organisers lied. Again. (Think about the promised Golden Circle concession stands…aaah, yes, forgot about that one did we?)

Did I mention the bands rocked? OK, except maybe 3 Doors Down. Snore.

Hoobastank stole the show with their performance. Hands down. They really were a surprise. Evanescence and Staind were exceptional and polished. (And threw out a couple of disses at Axl) And boy did the SA bands bring some A-game. Fantastic performances all round. Cassette we love you!

Fortunately the heavy lifting has been done as Oscar reviewed the Joburg MyCokeFest and there’s more detail here.

I’m just here to bring you the nice little tidbits:

Like Photos of the MyCokeFest.
And then some Videos of the MyCokeFest.
The top 4 are mine – the rest I discovered on Youtube. (Despite the old forbidden-camera rule)
Share the love.

Go ahead, enjoy! I did.
